I am participating in the challenge! ADVENTURE is my one word to focus on this year! According to a solid online resource, Wikipedia, an adventure is an exciting or unusual experience! I am planning a bunch for this year!

1. Adopting a little boy! Please join our FB page for updates and info on our current status. Also, you can go here to donate to our adoption fund! We are over half way there:)

2. Rebranding my blog! What? Mavisdavis, where are you going? Well, I am not going anywhere! That’s the point. The name is a bit confusing for new readers who may think, “her name is Amy, why would she call herself Mavis?” So, I am skipping all the confusion and re-branding my blog. I will focus my writing on creativity, missions, motherhood and creative ways to connect the three. I will also be sharing my adventures in motherhood and life at SWO. Basically what I already blog about, but I need a new blog name! So, brainstorm and email me your suggestions. If you have the winning suggestion for my new blog name, I will send you a free piece of art!
*Also, there will be plenty of warning before I shut down!

Alani with her guitar and me with the banjo on Christmas!

3. Songwriting! I got a new banjo for Christmas (thanks again, Mom and Steve)! So, I’m taking the leap back into songwriting. It has been about 3 years since I have written a new song.  It is good to feel Lord stirring my heart to write new tunes for our church services at RedOak!

4. Art! I have recently joined a few friends in a little adventure called Stillframe Studio. We are joining our forces in art to create some beautiful things to share! It is up and running, so check it out!

So, those are 4 of my personal ADVENTURES for the year! So, it is appropriate to give my 2014 the name ADVENTURE! You can name your year too! Check out the resolution revolution at and find out what it is all about!

Day 15: Draw Near Trivet

Day 15: Draw Near Trivet
James 4:8 says draw near to God and HE will draw near to you. This is a great reminder of God’s faithfulness! I think it should be displayed in my home to remind me to draw near to God when I am frustrated, annoyed, panicked or just needing to show some compassion to someone. So, I drew up this little design and placed it on a round piece of wood to be used as a trivet. And the winner is…

Day 13: Coffee Mug

Day 13: Coffee Mug
As I was going through my journal from the summer looking for inspiration for my 31 Days projects. I came across a small drawing in my journal of Lamentations 3:22-24.

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

These verses strengthen my soul and fuel my motivation to extend the faithfulness of the Lord to my children. It reminds me to forget yesterday's struggles and press into Christ with joy! What better place to keep this before my eyes but on my coffee mug first thing… So, that's what I created. And the winner is…

Day 12: Show Kindness Door Frame Sign

Day 12: Show Kindness
I love the verses in Deuteronomy 6 where the Lord says to Israel:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Being a stay-at-home-mama my nerves can come unraveled quickly when all three are in breakdown mode or asking for different things at the same time. Whatever the circumstance, I need to respond with KINDNESS. I have this phrase written on a piece of wood above a doorway in our kitchen. It serves to remind me of the kindness Christ shows me daily and through God’s work in my life, I am capable of showing kindness to my kids no matter the circumstances. This was my inspiration for creating this door frame sign for the 31 Days of Artsy Giveaways.

This door frame sign is thin enough to sit above most door frames! Or you could velcro it to the wall:) Whatever, it’s a sign, just put it up somewhere and remember to show kindness! Today, the winner is… ShowKindnessDoorFrame - 1

Day 9: We Hope – 2
When we decided that selling my artwork might be a good way to raise money for our adoption, I created a series of 3 drawings based on the verse in Romans… This is the second drawing in the series. I have 8X10 prints available here! I hope to add more as the giveaways are revealed, so keep visiting MavisDavis for my 31 Days of Artsy Giveaways!

Day 7: Be Still And Know

An Abstract Background Texture Of Grungy Blackboard Day 7: Be Still and Know! This small wood plaque is bright, truthful and encouraging. Every time I read it, I am tempted to keep it! I experimented with lots of mediums to make this plaque. I used modpodge, water color pencils, sharpies, sandpaper, pens and whatever else I had in my art area at the time. I have made scans of this one and hope it printed on cards to sell in my online store this month.
And the winner of the day is…

Day 6: Colorful Wood Plaque

An Abstract Background Texture Of Grungy Blackboard
I found this wood plaque in a craft aisle of a store. I used many different techniques from modpoge to water color pencils in creating this unique wood plaque.
